Kingdom of Northern Haiti,  Royaume d'Haïti du Nord , 1806-1820
Republic of Haiti,  République d'Haïti , 1964-1986

National and mercantile flag, established by the constitution of May 20, 1805 following the proclamation of the empire (October 8, 1804). A year later (October 17, 1806) Dessalines, emperor under the name of Jacques I, was assassinated; at the end of the year his successor Henri Christophe was expelled, who sheltered in the north taking the two-tone black-crimson with him, and founded a kingdom there, which lasted until 1820. The flag was taken up again by Duvalier after almost a century and a half, from 21 June 1964 to February 25, 1986. Proportions approximately 3/5. The two colors symbolized the solidarity between the black population and the indigenous and mulatto population.
